The path to certification

We previously announced that Matrix iQ has officially achieved B Corp certification. This prestigious recognition marks a significant milestone in our journey towards building a more sustainable, responsible, and impactful business. The B Corp certification process has not only validated the hard work we have put into aligning our operations with high social and environmental standards, but it has also opened doors to new opportunities to enhance our offerings and engage with like-minded organisations.

The process of becoming a B Corp took two years, with 18 months of consistent effort to complete the necessary steps. As the timeline stretched across a longer period, it was essential for us to maintain ongoing focus on the certification’s requirements, especially given the depth of documentation and changes needed to align with the B Corp standards.

What is B Corp certification?

B Corp certification is awarded to companies that meet high social and environmental performance standards. To earn B-Corp status, Matrix iQ completed the B Impact Assessment (BIA), which evaluates our impact across five key areas: governance, workers, community, environment, and customers. The process required extensive documentation, including policies on human rights, carbon management, and community engagement, as well as proof of ISO certifications.

The certification is built on six key pillars, each requiring us to make meaningful improvements:

• Governance: We enhanced our governance by updating policies, ensuring ISO compliance, and improving documentation.
• Workers: We invested further in staff by becoming a living wage employer, upgrading training, onboarding, and benefits.
• Community: We formalised community efforts, including volunteering, charity work, and sponsoring local football teams.
• Environment: We committed to sustainability by switching to renewable energy, improving recycling, and purchasing carbon offset credits from the Carbon Trust.
• Customers: We gathered NPS scores and integrated feedback to ensure transparency and demonstrate customer satisfaction.

Why did we pursue B Corp certification?

It quickly became apparent that B Corp certification aligned perfectly with our core values and the direction we were heading as a company. With a growing focus on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices, we knew that becoming a certified B Corp would reinforce the meaningful work we’re already doing and help us continue evolving in a way that benefits all stakeholders.
